For the Lusatian Mountains region, glassmaking is a craft that is deeply rooted in the local life. Its history dates back all the way to the 13th century, but the current production is also worth noting and makes the Czech Republic stand out in the world. The region is home to the headquarters of the most famous brands in the field, glassmakers working in small family-run glassworks, the oldest glassmaking school in Europe, as well as glass museums in Nový Bor and Kamenický Šenov. Several hundred years ago, local glassmakers traded as successfully with the East and overseas as they do today. The diversity of the local glassmaking industry is also evidenced by other branches of this craft – the production of mirrors, which in its time competed with Venetian mirrors, and the production of chandeliers, which made the town of Kamenický Šenov famous.
